Food As Medicine Is a Powerful Tool

Food as Medicine is a powerful concept.Just like putting gas in a car,the foods that we put into our bodies can keep us running smoothlyor break us down.

From the time I was 9 years old, the food as medicine concept has been an integral part of my life. In 1957, my father was diagnosed with a heart condition. Several of his associates had recently died from heart attacks and he had all the same symptoms. He was on his way to a follow-up appointment with a cardiologist when a sign grabbed his attention. He was walking past an optometrist's office that was advertising health through proper diet. He walked in and began a brand new lifestyle. My father never kept his appointment with the cardiologist. Instead, he transformed his life, and mine forever. With a diet based on organic, pure, natural food, his heart symptoms disappeared and he lived a long healthy life.

Searching for Health Through Diet

Since that monumental day, I have diligently studied food as medicine through different diets. Initially, as a family, we were macrobiotic. This drifted into Paul Bragg and fasting, to raw food diets, vegetarianism, juicing, monodiets, Zen diets, and even diets extracted from Biblical teachings. My years of working with patients have also contributed to the food as medicine research. In my clinic, I implemented and evaluated the importance of blood sugar diets, additive and chemical free diets, low carbohydrate, high protein, low-fat diets. As my awareness progressed, I polished diet therapy with the awareness of non-hybrid foods, sequential eating, and eating according to the seasons. Eventually, I developed an understanding of what foods inhibited a condition and what foods produced improvements. Since I launched my clinical practice in 1972, as a student intern, clinical nutrition has created the backbone to all effective treatment plans. Using food as medicine forms the foundation for health and is essential to eliminating disease and staying well.

Diet Therapy

Even the best treatment plans will not be effective when a poor quality diet exists. When the wrong foods are eaten it can really confuse the evaluation process. This can cause the need for additional treatments to eliminate the symptoms caused by the food.

For example, if someone is consuming milk products and complains of frequent sinus problems it would be futile to treat the sinuses when you really need to stop the milk consumption.

Diet Case Histories

Sinus and Diet

I recently treated an individual for a sinus condition. I instructed her to stop eating reactive foods. She said she had. The progression of her condition was slow and I kept asking if she was avoiding the wrong foods. She assured me she was, mostly. Some weeks later her mother informed me that she was doing great since she finally quit eating cheese!!! Once the food was removed, the treatments were able to work without resistance.

Allergic Reactions

Another case was more reactive. About 20 years ago I was on a plane when the flight attendant asked if there was a doctor on board. I responded to the request and was lead to the rear of the plane where an 8 year old boy was lying on the floor. He was having trouble breathing. I could instantly tell he was suffering with progressive anaphylaxis. His throat passage was closing from an allergic reaction to something. I asked the mother if the boy had consumed any of the peanuts that were served an hour previously. She replied that he had. I ran back to my seat where I had some pancreatic enzymes designed to digest protein. I smashed one between two spoons and mixed it with a little juice. I then proceeded to slowly administer it to the boy. Literally, within seconds the boy began to relax and several minutes later, he was fine.

They used to go to a special health oriented soda fountain shop in Portland, Oregon called "Buttermilk Corner" and sit at the bar and get two glasses of buttermilk.

Here is Dr. Easley as a young man.

By the time he was 18 years old, he was referred to as the "food police". His extended family stopped inviting him to family gatherings so that they could eat in peace! Well, he is still called the food police, and it's not always a party around here!

Tracking Food to Symptoms

Another example involves a very inquisitive and resourceful teenage girl. Her evaluation showed allergic reactions from a list of different foods. I gave her the list of the foods to avoid so that her body could heal. A month later she returned with a list in her hand. She had systematically taken each food I had told her to avoid and identified them with the symptom it caused. If she had apples, her throat burned. Milk made her sinuses and ears congested. Wheat caused her diarrhea. Bananas made her skin itch. By the end of the list, she had identified the food origins of almost all her symptoms!

Prostate and Diet

As a final example, I treated and individual who represents how a common food can produce the same disorder consistently. This man was in a new relationship and found that he could not express his ardor due to a swollen prostate. It had been swollen for years and was getting worse. His condition was so severe that he was unable to sit for more than thirty minutes at a time. He had tried everything conventional medicine had to offer with no results. I advised him to stop consuming all nuts, seeds, and nut butters. Within a week of adhering to the diet and using Enzyme Pro to get rid of the protein deposits, his condition alleviated and his ardor manifested. This is a classic example of how a specific food group can cause a specific disorder. Time and again I have found inflamed prostates are directly tied to nut protein deposits.

Healing With Food

In my forty plus years of utilizing natural diet treatments, there are hundreds of examples of how foods can cause conditions resulting in difficult symptoms.

Food as medicine diet therapy is designed to assist the body in healing a specific disorder. When an individual is suffering with a specific condition, certain foods will help and others will cause stress. For every condition, there exist specific dietary recommendations. The following food as medicine diet therapies assist the healing process.

On weekend road trips with his Dad they would have long conversations about the meaning of life. His Dad said that health was the most valuable asset there is, and with it you can tap into your own inner power and create anything you want in life. I couldn't agree more!
