the Endocrines

The endocrine system is a composed of a group of specialized organs that produce, store, and secrete chemical substances known as hormones. Hormones transfer information and instructions from the primary gland that secreted it to specific cells in the body often referred to as target cells. What is unique about the endocrine glands is the fact that they secrete their hormones directly into the blood stream. For this reason they are called the ductless glands. In contrast, exocrine glands, such as the sweat glands, salivary glands and the pancreas release their secretions directly to their specific target areas through tubes called ducts.

The endocrine glands have numerous functions. They regulate the body's growth and development, control blood sugar levels, balance body minerals, regulate water distribution, control blood pressure, support pregnancy and other reproductive functions, and regulate our metabolism.

There is an additional function of the endocrine glands that is related to the way they can make us act.

An efficient production of estrogen will allow a woman to be in tune with her body and her actions without the need of thought. For example, a very artistic woman came into the clinic complaining of being nervous and tense. This was a feeling she was unaccustomed to having. What made it worse was the fact that she was an artist specializing in large paintings done in acrylic. She was currently preparing for a big show in New York but was unable to paint. The process of painting made her too tense, making what used to be a very easy and natural process difficult and irritating. The evaluation revealed her estrogens were slowly declining.

When estrogens gradually decline, an individual finds themselves more in the process of thought instead of intuition. The art of painting, which is a natural creative process that flows without resistance from the artist to the canvas gradually becomes more of an intellectual endeavor. What brush is ideal for the area? Do the colors match? Is the form correct? Are the colors working together? Suddenly, a wonderfully fulfilling intuitive process becomes an intellectual burden causing tension, frustration, and most destructively, apprehension which paralyzes the complete process.
Estrogen is an incredible hormone that enables individuals to become one with the environment they are moving through bringing an awareness that allows them to automatically sense the correct actions and responses. When estrogens are deficient, the mind must take over. This compels cautious observation, the need to analyze and scrutinize in an intellectual attempt at perceiving all that is necessary for completing a creative process. An intellectual creative process often results in accumulated internal stress, robbing the individual of the enjoyment that is rightfully theirs.

body personality estrogens

Once the diagnosis was made, the necessary treatment was given with the intent of restoring the artist’s estrogen levels back to normal. On a subsequent visit a month later, she remarked she was not only back to her true self but also more productive than she could ever recall. By the time she presented her work at the art show, she had completed more paintings than were required, resulting in the enjoyment of the most successful presentation she had experienced in many years. This is a perfect example of how a healthy endocrine system is capable of transforming an individual out of the analytical intellectual mind and into an intuitive process. When intuition is optimum, we are able to move through our lives with the ease that only comes from being “in the zone.” Everything clicks into place with little effort. It is as if we are wired for success.

Spiritual Pineal

The Pineal gland is a small endocrine that is located in the lower center of the brain.  It is a well-developed, light-sensitive organ, or so-called "third eye," and is greatly affected by light through the nerve tracts from the eyes.  The pineal produces a hormone called melatonin, manufactured from the neurotransmitter serotonin.  Melatonin regulates the pigmentation of skin, has an effect on the gonads, thyroid, and adrenal glands, and is associated with a number of biorhythms.  In early life it controls the onset of puberty by regulating the production of gonad hormones.  It is also suspected that melatonin which circulates mainly during the night helps to promote sound sleep.  In spite of all that has been learned about the pineal gland, it is still one of the biggest mysteries in the body.

Psychologically, the activity of a healthy pineal promotes the intuitive sense that there is a Divine power that regulates and controls all life and even inanimate objects. It enables the appreciation of existence and everything that composes it.  When the pineal gland is healthy, we are able to experience the awe of a vibrant sunset, the exhilaration of watching a humpback whale breach, and the peaceful joy when gazing at the sweet innocence of a newborn baby. We are internally aware that there indeed is a Divine foundation to all things and, more importantly, we are grateful. It is then from gratitude that we live in respect for the Divine existence in all things. The pineal allows us to know intuitively that the purpose of life is to live according to the guidelines established by a Divine Creator.  The pineal is responsible for bestowing upon us a knowing beyond question or doubt we are all part of the Divine.

I love this endocrine! I remember having a dream once that I had a large third eye right between my other two, and it opened and blinked for the first time, and I was looking through it, and everything was blurry and then as I blinked some more, things slowly came into focus. I love being thankful for everything too. It feels like its an honor to me to be in a state of gratitude!

Humanitarian Hypothalamus

The hypothalamus gland is actually part of the brain. It is located behind the eyes in about the center of the brain. The hypothalamus is the main gland responsible for the regulation of all body functions, which is a remarkably amazing feat when you consider that it weighs less than two tenths of an ounce and constitutes less than one percent of the total volume of the brain. It accomplishes its regulatory functions by virtue of its nerve connections to the brain, which literally links the hypothalamus to every area of the body. Through its nerve connections, the hypothalamus first receives signals from the body and then responds with the necessary stimulation. This establishes the hypothalamus as the Master Regulatory Gland in charge of maintaining homeostasis.
Homeostasis is a state of perfect balance between bodily nutrient and oxygen requirements in response to all forms of external as well as internal stress. For this reason, the hypothalamus controls the activity of all body functions, including hormone production, blood sugar regulation, appetite, emotions, sexual behavior, and the autonomic nervous system. It is as though the hypothalamus was a quality-control expert constantly appraising the body functions. If a deficiency develops or an increased demand for nutrients or hormones occurs, it then releases a signal which normalizes the area that is being stressed thereby reestablishing homeostasis. When considering this all-important function it is easy to understand the mental and psychological value of the hypothalamus.
Psychologically, the hypothalamus activates the humanitarian instincts of an individual.  A healthy hypothalamus allows the individual to understand and consider all of humanity and the needs of humanity. For this reason, the individual with a healthy hypothalamus lives life according to the credo of the musketeers. “One for all and all for one” is the intuitive motivation of the healthy hypothalamus. Consequently, all careers chosen have a foundation in creating a better world for everyone. There is an inner sense that motivates the individual to perform jobs that help others because only through helping others are our own lives truly enriched. Any career that touches the lives of others in a benevolent and caring way is a career established by a healthy hypothalamus. Social capitalism that promotes jobs and independence, philanthropy, effective medicine, social work, charitable organizations, and teaching are all careers chosen by the individual with a healthy hypothalamus. Love of humanity is not only what we do but also how we do it. Kind words, thoughtful interactions with someone, transferring the feeling that we are all somehow united in a common purpose is all that is required to make every position in life a humanitarian one. The hypothalamus produces the humanitarian.

Humanitarian Hypothalamus and "One for all and all for one"

Social capitalism is AWESOME! A part of me used to think that capitalism wasn't the best way for attaining my goals. Yet social capitalism is a perfect way of enriching everyone. And it has the potential for teaching others to help themselves, and then others in turn. Kind of like the pay it forward concept, only instead of just giving, you can earn money along the way and become self sufficient and then empower others to be independent! I think that self sufficiency can lift humanity in so many ways. When we aren't stuck in the acute cycle of survival, we can bring out the best in ourselves. We can be creative, and express ourselves. We can help each other better too. All for all, and everyone becomes one!

Visionary Pituitary

The pituitary gland is located in the lower center of the brain just below the hypothalamus.  Structurally, it looks like a cherry and is comprised of an anterior (in the front), intermediate, and posterior (in the back) lobes.  It functions in response to commands by the hypothalamus when specific endocrine glands require stimulation.  It selectively tells the ovaries, thyroid, adrenal, and testes to produce their respective hormones.  By doing so, the anterior portion of the pituitary promotes cell growth, stabilizes blood sugar thereby enabling the body to adapt to all forms of stress, regulates metabolism by stimulating the thyroid, controls the maturation and function of the ovaries and testes and stimulates the production of milk.  The intermediate lobe secretes melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH), which temporarily darkens the skin and regulates the moods.  The posterior lobe has direct nerve connections with the brain.  It stores and releases two hormones produced by the hypothalamus.  Oxytocin stimulates uterine contractions during childbirth and initiates milk to ‘letdown’ in nursing mothers.  Vasopressin, an antidiuretic hormone (ADH), acts on the kidneys to prevent excess loss of body water.

Psychologically, the pituitary is the visionary. It produces original ideas, promotes the imagination, visions, inventiveness, dreams and the creative process. Ultimately, it maintains the flow of abstract and practical thoughts necessary for the completion of self-established goals. More importantly, a healthy pituitary grounds the ideas in reality enabling a full commitment along with the necessary personal validation so we become conscious of our own potential. The pituitary provides a flow of ideas and originality along a course of action so we are capable of knowing the dynamic process until the completion of a goal. This enables us to accomplish our goals regardless of the obstacles encountered and without the need for support and validation from others. A healthy pituitary establishes full commitment to our goals and ourselves enabling us the freedom to live our lives according to our own unique creative process. It is the endocrine gland of originality, creativity, and success.

Visionary Pituitary and the gift of strategy

What a gift to be able to bring ideas into manifestation! Pituitary happens to be one of the endocrines that is out of whack a lot, so consequently we live on a world where ideas abound, yet they tend to go nowhere. Putting this website together is a challenge in joining the world of ideas and knowledge with expression in the material world. But my pituitary must be healthier than before, because for the first time I feel connected to my vision. It feels like my idea of this site is sitting out there in the ethers, and there is only time and space between us, and we are like magnets that are inevitably coming together. Its really neat!

Selfless Thymus

The thymus gland is well known for its immune functions. It is located at the base of the neck behind the upper section of the sternum (breastbone).  The human thymus continues to grow for about a year after birth, reaching a weight of about one and a half ounces.  This size maintains until puberty.  After puberty, the lymphatic tissue is replaced by fat, but the thymus remains functional throughout life.  It is considered part of the lymphatic system and is extremely important in the effectiveness of the immune system.  The main function of the thymus is to process lymphocytes received from the blood-producing bone marrow and fetal liver.  These cells proliferate and differentiate in the thymus into thymic lymphoid cells called T cells, each one programmed for a specific antigen to which it will react.  This system allows the body to recognize foreign substances so it can attack them, neutralize them, and facilitate their elimination from the body before they cause any damage.  Allergy-causing substances, malignant cells, viral infection, fungal infection, and some bacteria can all be controlled with a healthy thymus.  It also uses its lymphatic functions to process toxins helping to eliminate a portion of the body’s waste products.  The thymus also has a very unique function related to fats.  The thymus maintains the circulation of specific fat-digesting enzymes that assist in the breakdown of body fats, fat-based toxins, and the cell membranes of bacteria.  It also stores and releases a protein-digesting enzyme that is capable of softening the outer portion of a protein-based foreign object so the appropriate scavengers can eliminate it.

These immune functions have a characteristic influence on the psychological aspects of  our existence. A healthy thymus makes it possible for us to appreciate what we individually require to maintain our health and needs.  It directs the consciousness towards the self. This makes it possible for us to be personally responsible.  How are we doing physically? Are we strong enough to perform our specific jobs or should we rest and recover? Do we have enough energy to extend ourselves to helping and supporting others? Or, should we take some time to be by ourselves, to relax, meditate or just be still? With a healthy thymus, the individual is always conscientious, confident regarding personal health, respectful of others, and ethical. Consequently, the thymus enables us to extend ourselves by helping others in support of the humanitarian purpose established because of the hypothalamus.

Selfless Thymus and the solid foundation from where we can give

It all starts with ourselves doesn't it? Here is an amazing body personality trait that embodies selflessness. And yet it begins with focusing on the self! When our tank is empty how are we going to be able to give? I know for myself I can forget to replenish, and ultimately the whole process of giving suffers! Balance is tough to get right! When we stop using our brains and listen to ourselves it gets easier. Where does that intuition come from? Is it everywhere? I have felt a physical confirmation from it before and it feels like its in the solar plexus/heart area. I am always shocked to feel it, and I just hope for more and more chances to be in touch with it so physically.

Communicative Thyroid

Metabolism is the process by which food is converted to energy by the body and it is the thyroid that is the primary endocrine gland responsible for regulating the metabolism.  It is located in front of and on each side of the larynx. It produces iodine-based thyroid hormones that increase the oxygen and sugar availability to cells. This establishes how fast they can produce energy in order to perform their own individual functions.  As a result, the thyroid is much like the gas pedal in a car regulating how fast all the body functions will perform.  A healthy thyroid enables a normal appetite, good energy levels, complete digestion, efficient hormone cycles, and tolerance to temperature fluctuations.  It also provides an active intelligence with articulate communication skills.

Psychologically, the thyroid primarily influences the mental processes, the ability to intellectualize, to reason, to think something through, to problem solve, and to comprehend. It enables the conscious access to the ideas and concepts produced by the pituitary. In so doing, the thyroid gives us the ability to verbalize and accurately communicate ideas and concepts. It is the endocrine gland of colorful and precise articulation.

We need to use our brains to process our intuitive ideas and concepts so that we can work together, and share our stuff. This lovely endocrine allows us to participate with each other and have an exchange. Boy is it fun when you are on the same page as someone else, and into a groove together. It's a creative expression where you lose track of space and time. You can almost grab the end of their thoughts and take it in and around and give back your own, and then you are dancing with your brains!

Self-Oriented Ovaries

Every female possesses two ovaries situated to the side of the uterus in the lower abdomen.  Ovaries have a shape very much like almonds but are about twice as large.  They are considered the most important of all the endocrine glands because of their ability to contain the eggs (ova) necessary to reproduce our species.  They also produce the necessary hormones (estrogen, progesterone, and some testosterone) to enable the development of the female characteristics, and the final maturation of the ova, and the maintenance of healthy pregnancies.  It is estimated that during fetal life, the ovaries contain as many as 7 million immature ova.  At puberty, approximately 200,000 remain after the process of natural selection has eliminated the weak ones.  Of these remaining eggs, only about 400 ever mature during the fertile years from twelve to the mid-forties.  The remainder undergoes natural degeneration so that by the time of menopause there are none present.  However, the ovaries continue to produce hormones throughout life ensuring the health of the system.
These hormones have a profound influence on the psychological characteristics of woman. Ovarian hormones direct the consciousness towards the self in a supportive and creative manner. They maintain a woman’s intuition and knowing regarding the essentials for the nurturing of themselves as well as their own growth and development. Efficient ovarian hormones facilitate the ability to perform the essential functions automatically without having to think or analyze. They make the entire process natural and easy. Personal hygiene, clothing, food preparation, the development of a comfortable living environment and even creative projects are all determined by healthy ovarian hormones.

The purpose is to insure the development of the self and ultimately the establishment of self-worth. A personal sense of value, self-worth, self-esteem and a deserving nature are the positive results of efficient ovarian hormones. Once established, women are capable of extending themselves constructively and effortlessly into the environment. This includes the presentation of self as a confident personality, which reflects in all relationships, interactions with children, and associates and in the staging of all creative projects. Healthy ovarian hormones produce a woman that is confident, self-aware, totally present, capable, caring, nurturing, and above all deserving of success in all aspects of life.

The Self-Oriented Ovaries and knowing our worthy self-esteem

Isn't she lovely? You can just see the healthy ovaries working! Women were designed to receive. In order to do that we need to feel worthy! Our self worth opens the door, and allows for full reception, so the circle of energy continues and becomes more than it could be by itself. With that energy coming in we then have it tenfold going out to nurture and love. Nature works in wonderful ways.

Worthy Testes

The two testes are the gonads of the male.  They function to produce active sperm and the male hormone called testosterone.  Spermatozoa are among the smallest and most specialized cells in the body.  Each contains the entire genetic code of the father and is equipped with a tail for active motility, and intelligence for finding the ova of the female.  Testosterone is the primary masculinzing hormone produced by the testes and is responsible for promoting the development of the male characteristics, deepening the voice and stimulating the increased usage of protein for the development of muscle and strength.
The testes are also responsible for the development of healthy psychological traits.  The testes enable the male to feel comfortable with his environment and the environment he is creating. They promote creativity and problem-solving capabilities. They also make it possible for a male to maintain a healthy level of confidence in relationships and in his process of manifesting ideas and goals.
Of all the characteristics the testes bestow upon a male, ambition is probably the most unique. Ambition promotes desire, the need to accomplish, and facilitates the striving necessary to be successful in whatever is attempted. Primarily, this desire when directed towards the self causes a deep appreciation for self-improvement and personal growth. A healthy competitive nature then develops, not with others but with the self always aspiring to be better. As a result the individual with efficient testicular function is able to live a confident, successful life founded on an intuitive sense of personal value.

Body personality worthy testes Ambition, desire, and striving with a balanced confidence is so attractive! Again there is the focus on the self to develop and grow. It really is fun to see what can be accomplished from worthy desire. Bear Grylls from Man vs. Wild is a great example of balanced testosterone. He is strong and confident and is always striving to be better and push his own limits. And in doing so he experiences life up close and powerfully, yet he is relaxed and humble and real. Its a total commitment towards manifesting his desires. You can really see that he is living out his dreams! And that is beautiful!

Stable Adrenal Cortex

The Adrenal Cortex is the outside portion of a triangular-shaped endocrine gland (the adrenal gland) which sits on top of each kidney.  It produces and releases hormones into the blood stream to activate several body functions necessary for stress adaptation. This includes prolonged physical effort, injury recovery, traumatic emotional experiences, and prolonged periods of stress.  The adrenal cortex also helps the body defend itself against bacterial or viral infections and from allergy-inducing substances.  It accomplishes this by adjusting the blood sugar, conserving salt to raise the blood pressure, regulating water and electrolyte balance, increasing protein metabolism, and assisting in the control of inflammatory reactions.  It also supports the production of the sex hormones.  The adrenal cortex serves as the foundation gland for several of the basic life processes necessary to permit adaptation in the physical world.

Psychologically, the adrenal cortex bestows the intuitive sense that allows us to know what we must do in order to survive in the material world, and it provides us the stamina, endurance, and the energy to maintain while we are in the process of becoming successful. Most importantly, it gives us a sense of what is necessary to be financially and materially successful. The acceptance of responsibility is the ultimate result of this awareness and enables us to know and choose the correct course of action. A proficient adrenal cortex facilitates choosing the perfect career, exercising the perfect money management skills, investment expertise and stability in the material world. Consequently, the individual with a healthy adrenal is practical, sensible, realistic and above all relaxed and capable with all forms of stress

body personality stable adrenal cortex

Here is a great example of the adrenal cortex body personality in action. He is happy and content with his career. He wants to stay in the same career forever, and he is very successful at it. He's dependable and he has amazing stamina and follow through. Our recent generations are notorious for having the opposite feelings about their careers. Perhaps the adrenal cortex is compromised in these generations from some common reason or reasons? Maybe its the food quality or the common drugs that are administered and their effects?

Courageous Parathyroid

There are four small parathyroid glands positioned on the sides of the thyroid gland located in front of the throat.  They are small, bean-shaped endocrine glands that function to regulate the concentration and balance of calcium with phosphate ions in the blood.. The parathyroid glands produce a hormone called PTH (parathyroid hormone or parathormone) which is stimulated by a reduction in the level of blood calcium.  It then restores the level to normal by the triggering the release of calcium from bone. At the same time, phosphate is excreted in urine to maintain the correct balance between the two ions. This function provides solid bones, muscle strength and relaxation, and normal nerve activity.

Psychologically, the parathyroid provides an individual with courage, a ‘backbone’ and the nerve to assume projects or tasks essential to their creative process. Individuals who possess a healthy parathyroid function will not hesitate when they are required to do something they feel is necessary for the completion of their goals. Moving to a new location, starting a new business, becoming more independent, going to college after the kids are on their own, even going to a movie by oneself can all be activities enabled by a healthy parathyroid. Ultimately, the parathyroid makes life adventurous, exciting and progressive.

body personality courageous parathyroid

My girlfriend Katie used to call me a "creampuff" when we were younger . So a few years back I'm talking to Katie, and showing some parathyroid brawn, and she stopped, and looked at me with her big brown eyes, and said, "Michale! You've got a backbone!!" Gee thanks Katie! My cute little parathyroid was better, but still not perfect! Then I broke my back for realsies, and I'm thinking that the universe is telling me something... So I am still trying to figure out my lessons on this subject! Tune in later for any updates!

Determined Adrenal Medullae

There are actually two adrenal glands. Each one sits on top of a kidney.  The adrenal medulla is the center portion of the triangular-shaped adrenal gland. The adrenal medulla produces two adrenaline hormones called epinephrine and norepinephrine, which assist the body in adapting to stress.  This stress can be either internal or external in origin.  If it is internal, then the stress is due to hypoglycemia, allergies, toxins, emotional stress, or trauma.  External stress is induced by responsibilities, obligations, jobs, projects, being exposed to difficult situations in daily life, such as, speaking in front of a group of people, getting caught in traffic, or being late for an appointment.  Adrenaline hormones enable the body to adapt to all forms of stress by increasing the heart rate and the systolic blood pressure, increasing blood volume, increasing the blood flow to the muscles, liver, and brain, and by increasing the activity of the lungs, so more oxygen is absorbed.  They also decrease the digestive function and elevate blood sugar levels for the production of energy.  Adrenaline increases energy, improves reflexes and generates the power to pursue goals voluntarily. Adrenaline becomes active about fifteen minutes into the stress and can last until the stress is complete, making it an essential function for living on the planet.

Psychologically, the adrenal medulla provides strength, determination, power, and the ability to fulfill responsibilities. It makes an individual an excellent worker and strongly independent.  It enables the individual to pursue and maintain their goals in spite of the odds.  The adrenal medulla forms the foundation of strength and power everyone needs to assert themselves. It establishes the acceptance of responsibility both for our own as well as environmental demands. The awareness of one’s own responsibilities makes it possible in turn to establish boundaries. Boundaries are essential to a healthy life since they determine the limits by which we are capable of extending ourselves. They also restrict the demands placed on us by a relationships, associates, friends, or employers. The adrenal medulla is an essential component to a balanced life through understanding of our true potential.

Determined Adrenal Medullae and going against all odds

I like this one. This feels like the "hero" making endocrine. Someone who can push through tremendous odds, and come through the other side on top. Like Seabiscuit the horse and Jim Braddock the boxer. They are both great examples of the adrenal medulla body personality and they both had massive "heart". I wonder if it is related to how this endocrine functions? When I think of all of the instances of these traits playing out, they ALL have the heart engaged completely. Love wins in the end!
