Alternative Therapy & Body Balancing
|
by Dr. Norman Easley |
When an alternative therapy is effective, it enables the body to normalize its natural flow of energy. This is true healing. Knowing what alternative therapy to prescribe is the difficult part! It did not take me long to realize that a natural treatment will not work unless it has been accurately prescribed and timed correctly. Natural medicine is a system by which the “art” of prescribing is cultivated. I have been using alternative therapies since my internship at Oregon’s National College of Naturopathic Medicine since 1972. It has been a long and arduous journey filled with failures, excitement, awareness, understanding, satisfaction, and eventually a degree of consistency. From my practice and research I have found many things that work and many that do not. The foundation to understanding natural medicine lies in a solid scientific knowledge of the human body and an in depth awareness of the main categories of alternative therapy and allopathic therapy. |
Allopathic simply means to prescribe medication that does not treat the real disease. Instead, allopathic medications help to alleviate the symptoms caused by the disorder. All disorders in the body create imbalances. All imbalances create symptoms. Often an imbalance causes another disorder that also has its own set of symptoms. This can make the primary cause very illusive and difficult to identify. Until an accurate diagnosis is made, allopathic therapies can be incorporated to treat the symptoms and at least make life more comfortable. In many parts of the world today allopathic therapies are the only therapy used in treating patients. The concept of alternative therapy came about when people wanted an alternative to the “normal” therapies available. Alternative therapy is any therapy that supports the body to balance itself and in doing so will alleviate original imbalances or the “cause”. For our purposes alternative therapy is any therapy that addresses the cause of an imbalance in the body.

BUYING TIME
TO FIND

Essentially, all allopathic therapies "buy time." This was something I learned early on in the clinic. When I had a difficult patient I would initially analyze their diet and make the necessary corrections. I knew from experience that diet therapy would give me an average of three months before it would begin to lose its effect. On the second visit I would analyze the effectiveness of their digestive system and prescribe the necessary supplements. This would give me an additional month to isolate the true cause. I would also prescribe what ever I found was necessary to assist in alleviating the symptoms. Until I found the true cause of the condition I would use a series of allopathic treatments. It is interesting to note that in natural medicine all therapies have the potential to be both curative and allopathic. |

So if all therapies can be both curative and allopathic, then it's what you've got AND how you use it that makes the magic happen! Curative refers to remedies that can heal stuff. And allopathic refers to remedies that try to eliminate the symptoms. Like aspirin for a headache. It doesn't get rid of the cause of the headache just the pain.
My practice today is very different from 20 to 30 years ago. It has been a laborious progression from physical exams, to electro-acupuncture point evaluation, pulse diagnosis, reflex point analysis, Voll and Schimmel substance analysis, and three stages of Radionics. All of the techniques I incorporated formed the groundwork to what I use today.
Now, I employ an extensive test kit filled with ampoules that energetically represent the parts of the body and the possible treatments. I also use applied kinesiology to test the patient with the ampoules. Utilizing a unique sequencing system, I use applied kinesiology to enable the body to tell me exactly what treatments it wants and in the proper order.
I work with a computer system that I designed with my friend, Thomas Sawyer. Together after five years, we completed the system, called MediPoint in 1998. MediPoint is an algorithmic system that guides the health practitioner through a series of screens to reach a recommended therapy. Essentially, MediPoint is a computer representation of the body's own organs, glands, and systems.
For the practitioner it gives a clear understanding of the imbalance and the most effective treatments. The patient receives an extensive printout of the findings. The benefit of the printout is the full explanations of their condition along with descriptions of all the treatments prescribed. In addition, it fills in the information gaps that clinic time does not allow. Over the years, this evaluation process has served as a phenomenal teaching tool. It has enabled me to understand what products are effective for what conditions. It has also enabled me to know what treatments to prescribe at what time in the patient's process. Moreover, I have learned that every individual possesses an innate intelligence capable of directing them to perfect health. Everyone has the ability to heal!
With that in mind, I want to share some general guidelines for alternative therapies.

Online Diagnostice System
These guidelines are for informational purposes only. It is very important that each individual is treated by a competent health professional.
1. KEEP IT SIMPLE: after reviewing all of the possible conditions which most accurately match, choose 1 or 2 supplements. Too many will muddle the picture. The most important thing is determine the response to the treatments and to identify which are responsible.
2. Follow the diet recommendations as best as possible.
3. Include a protein enzyme. I recommend several products. Protein enzymes break down proteotoxins responsible for maintaining symptom patterns.
4. Give the body time to respond. In most cases, improvement should be noted in the first week. If there is no change after two weeks, look for a deeper cause and treatment.
5. Once improvement has begun, allow a minimum of one month before shifting to a new level of alternative treatment.
6. When the correct alternative treatment has been isolated the psychology improves. There will be less moodiness and emotional negativity. This is the most important means of monitoring results. The treatment can actually be used to eliminate a bad mood at the time it is happening. If this is happening, then the correct supplements are being taken.
7. Eventually, the body will progress to another, often deeper or older, layer of conditions. This is noted when a new pattern of symptoms develops. It will then be time to reevaluate.

The severity and duration of the condition determines the length of treatment. A rule of thumb is three to six months for any alternative treatment. The body requires about three months to break a pattern and an addition three months to replace the old pattern with a new healthy one. Follow alternative treatment schedules for six months or longer. There is also the element of genetics. Identifying a hereditary weakness means the treatments will be needed for more than a year. Aside from this, there are certain time periods that can help you understand the healing process better. (These are general time frames only.)
Diets: Normally, results occur within two weeks only to peak in three months. If it becomes more difficult to follow the diet, it is because another condition is at fault. Cravings and lack of discipline are not the patient’s fault. They are the body’s fault and it is important to find the condition responsible.
Food Intolerances and allergies: Eliminating the offensive foods will cause improvement within a few days. Generally, the body requires three months to educate itself in the proper management of an irritating food. If after three months there is still a reaction, it is possible the allergy is hereditary. In this case, a year of alternative treatment might be required.
Mucous membranes found in the sinuses and intestinal tract can heal in one month when the causative factor has been removed.
Skin requires a week provided the cause has been eliminated.
Liver: 1 month
Ovaries: 3 months
Heart: 9 to 12 months
Ligaments: 3 months
Bone: 2 to 3 months
Pancreas enzymes: 3 months
Brain and nerves: 3 to 6 months
Missing Organs: If the ovaries, gall bladder, spleen, or a kidney have been removed, it is necessary to identify an adequate substitute and stay on it. When an organ has been removed, so has its function. This requires permanent supplementation.
Hereditary Conditions: until the genetics improve, an alternative treatment that is addressing an inherited disorder can continue for years.

The body has its own hierarchy that is important to remember. It is not a good idea to heal a condition that resides below an organ that is more important. The body does not care if the bones are becoming osteoporotic when the ovaries cannot produce estrogens. To do so forces the body to find energy elsewhere. When bone is forced to heal when other dysfunctions need to be addressed first, it will cause an increased burden on the kidney to supply the proper minerals and amino acids. Eventually, the kidneys will begin to deteriorate. It is always best to respect the body and not try to treat it out of sequence. An abbreviated hierarchy of the body is as follows:
Heart
Brain
Autonomic Nervous System
Hypothalamus
Liver
Adrenal Cortex
Lungs
Circulation
Thyroid
Thymus
Pancreas
Pituitary
Kidney
Digestive Functions
Lymphatics
Spleen
Gonads
Skin
Muscles
Bone

The scope of this topic is huge. For now, I will list the general alternative treatments that I use, and fill in the details later.
